Bindis, jewel and henna style: 100 years of Indian beauty in 1 minute

Indian beauty is in the spotlight thanks to the latest instalment of the cult "100 Years of Beauty" series.

Starring model Trisha Miglani, the film takes us on a whistle-stop tour of Indian beauty trends over the past century.

Things kick off with a simple barefaced look, a center-parted hairstyle and a colorful sari for the 1910s, before getting immediately more glamorous with the introduction of a braided updo, ruby earrings and a bold slick of cherry red lipstick for the 1920s. Trisha also sports groomed brows and a discreet clear-jewelled bindi.

Further bling is added for the 1930s, with the addition of a gold nose ring and elaborate gold drop-earrings. The bindi, however, is removed, and hand-painted on, before disappearing completely for the 1940s aesthetic. This decade sees Trisha undergo a complete overhaul, with her hair set in Hollywood-style waves and her eyes accentuated with pale green shadow.

The 1950s see her shake off her sari for a more pared-down and carefree look, with the earrings kept small and simple and hair left in natural waves. The painted bindi makes a return at this point. But it's all change for the 1960s, represented by a dramatic beehive hairdo, exaggerated winged eyeliner, candy pink lips and pearly drop earrings. The look is completed with bold, geometric henna designs on the hands.

Things are a lot more footloose and fancy free for the seventies, when Trisha sports untamed hair with long bangs, smoky green eye makeup and diamante hoop earrings. Punk is the order of the day for the 1980s, illustrated via a side ponytail weaved into a fishtail braid, extreme pink eye shadow and blush and, of course, lots of lipstick.

High-octane glamor returns for the 1990s, with a hair clipped up into an elegant chignon, false eyelashes added and the biggest, sparkliest drop earrings yet. Trisha also uses red Kumkuma powder to make a mark at her hairline, often used in India to indicate that a woman is married.

This is covered up for the naughties with an elaborate bronze headpiece, teamed with matching earrings. Make-up is kept young and minimal, resulting in a pretty, boho-esque look. Things are a bit more polished for the 2010s, in which Trisha shows off beautifully hennaed hands, a discreet bindi jewel, and luscious false lashes.
