KFC的“上校鸡块” 而colonel不是“上校”

前几天看陆谷孙老师的散文课录像,陆老师提到KFC时说colonel不是“上校”的意思。我不太懂,遂向陆老师请教,陆老师答“乡绅之类的意思。查美语词典可得详解。”我查了查韦氏在线词典,有如下含义:

a minor titular official of a state especially in southern or midland United States —used as an honorific title

再查维基百科KFC词条,有如下一句:

The dining area was named "Sanders Court & Café" and was so successful that in 1936 Kentucky Governor Ruby Laffoon granted Sanders the title of honorary Kentucky Colonel, in recognition of his contribution to the state's cuisine.

看来是翻译出了问题,且一错到底,一直到“上校鸡块”。
