The Real Competition

Did you have to compete with others to get the girl or guy you wanted? You know, whether we like it or not, competition is a part of life. Because usually there are other people besides you and I who want that same job, scholarship, business, or title. But some people stop at nothing to win. Whether it’s by lying, cheating or gossiping and destroying someone’s reputation. But you know when we compete only to win and beat the other person; it not only makes us bad losers, but also bad winners. That kind of competing only produces people with a bad heart and character, full of selfish, greed, pride and jealousy.

That’s why an important lesson in life is to learn to compete only with ourselves. Because then whether we win or lose against others, we still win. Because all our time and effort we spent to work, study, change and learn new things only make us a better more successful person and help us to reach our potential. As one guy put it : Trespassing is ok, if the boundaries you cross are your own” . So when we set good, important goals for ourselves, they work in two ways: we work on them and they work on us. You see, the real test of your success is whether you’re a better person than you were yesterday? Is your heart, attitudes and character better? Are you a better husband or wife, a better father of mother than you were last year? Or a better son or daughter>

You know, we can compete and win in the game of career and money, but if we lose our character by being dishonest or using or hurting others, then we’ll lose the real competition and everything important. Because the real measure of success is not what you have , but what you are as a person.
