Let's take a look at some of the major events that have happened in China and around the globe in the past week.

China is to speed up attracting more qualified foreign investment.

China begins to build oil reserve base.

And Vladimir Putin says he will lead Russian government if Dmitry Medvedev wins presidential election.

China is to speed up attracting more qualified foreign investment.
Speaking at the Ninth China Economists' Forum on Sunday, a senior National People's Congress official said China is to further encourage foreign investment in high-tech, advanced manufacturing and environmentally friendly industries, while prohibiting high energy consuming industries.
According to a global investment report issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, China ranks fifth in terms of attracting foreign direct investment.
Meanwhile Shang Ming, a senior official with China's Ministry of Commerce says China is regulating foreign capital purchase market.
Statistics from the Ministry of Commerce show that China approved around 1,300 cases of foreign capital purchasing in 2006, involving total assets of 1.4 billion US dollars.

China said on Wednesday its first national oil reserve base has been filled with crude oil, one day after it announced the setting up of a national oil reserve center.
Located in east China's Zhejiang Province, the base has a planned storage space of 5.2 million cubic meters.

About 100 Indian ground troops arrived in southwest China's Yunnan Province for a joint anti-terrorism military training with the Chinese military troop, the People's Liberation Army.
The 5 day training, code-named "Hand-in-hand-2007" began on Friday and will last until Dec. 27 in Yunnan Provincial capital Kunming.
Wu Xiaoyi, a senior official with the Foreign Affairs Office of China's Defense Ministry said the training aims to enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust between Chinese and Indian armed forces, strengthen their exchanges in the field of anti-terrorism.

"Through the joint training, China and India can strengthen their non-conventional security cooperation, especially in the field of anti-terrorism. And it shows the confidence and capability of the two countries to fight against terrorism."
The training program is the first ever joint anti-terrorism military training held between ground troops of the armed forces of China and India.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that he will lead the government if First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev wins the coming presidential election.
Putin made the remarks at a congress of the United Russia party, which has nominated Medvedev as its presidential candidate.

"If citizens give a vote of confidence to Dmitry Medvedev and elect him Russia's president, I will be ready to lead the government."
42 year old Medvedev was promoted to the position of presidential chief of staff in 2003 and took the post of first deputy prime minister in 2005.
He was reappointed to the same position in Sept, 2007, and was placed in charge of the economy and social development affairs.

South Korea's National Election Commission announced on Wednesday that Lee Myung-bak won the country's presidential elections.
According to the Election Commission, Lee has gained an overwhelming majority of the votes.
After winning the election, Lee vows to make a better future for the country.

"I know there are some people who are concerned about the economy. Do not think about the dark side for this nation over the last few years. Let's get together to make a better future for the country."
Lee will take over the position of president from current President Roh Moo-hyun on Feb. 25.
South Korea is currently the 13th largest economy in the world.

Iran has received the first shipment of nuclear fuel from Russia on Monday for its Bushehr reactor.
Gholam Reza Aghazadeh, head of the country's nuclear programme said it is a sign that Iran's nuclear programme is moving through a normal process.

"Currently 95 percent of the Bushehr Nuclear Plant has been completed and we can promise our people that next year power generated by Bushehr Nuclear Plant will be put into Iran's power network."
Russia and Iran reached an agreement on the shipment earlier this month. Russian Foreign Ministry has promised that the nuclear fuel will be under control of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
