The wolf and the lamb

Once upon a time a Wolf was lapping at a spring on a hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but a Lamb just beginning to drink a little lower down. “There's my supper,” thought he, “if only I can find some excuse to seize it.” Then he called out to the Lamb, “How dare you muddle up the water from which I am drinking?”
“Nay, master, nay,” said the lamb, “if the water be muddy up there, I cannot be the cause of it, for it runs down from you to me.” “Well, then,” said the Wolf, “Why did you call me bad names this time last year?” “That cannot be,” said the Lamb; “I'm only six months old.” “I don’t care,” snarled the Wolf; “if it was not you it was your father;” and with that he rushed upon the poor little Lamb and ate her all up. But before she died she gasped out. “Any excuse will serve a tyrant.”
狼和小羊一只大灰狼在山坡间的一条小溪边喝水，他看见一只小羊在下游不远处也开始喝水。“我的晚饭有着落了，”他想，“我得找个理由逮住她。”于是他冲着小羊大喊：“嗨！你弄脏了我的水！”
“咩-咩，”小羊说到，“主人，如果您那里的水被弄脏了，那可不能怪我，水是从你那流到我这里的。”大灰狼愣了一下，“那好吧，可你去年这时候为什么骂我？”“不可能，”小羊说，“我现在才六个月啊。”“我不管！”大灰狼咆哮着，“如果不是你，那就是你的爸爸”，说着大灰狼就冲过去，一口吞下可怜的小羊。临死的时候，小羊柔弱地说道：“暴君可以找到任何理由作为他施暴的借口。”
