China's ministry of commerce says that overall consumer activity has been boosted nationwide by the National Day holiday week.

Of all the industries, tourism scaled new heights after the nation's recent hosting of the Olympics.
CRI Reporter Liao Jibo has the details.

Reporter:

As millions of people move about the country during the National Day holiday, tourism in China is booming.

In Hangzhou, a resort city in eastern China, local affordable hotels are popular amongst tourists with few vacancies now available.

"I made a reservation through the hotel's website, because my friend told me the price would be reasonable."
In other cities, such as Qingdao and Urumchi, only a few rooms at high class hotels are remain available.

A hotel manager in the coastal city of Qingdao describes the situation.

"Nearly all the rooms in my hotel were booked about ten days prior to the national day holiday. I think this will continue until at least Sunday."

The favorable consumer trend is also evident in the retail sector. In Shanghai and Chongqing, two municipalities in China, many consumers are taking advantage of discounts offered by large shopping malls.

A consumer says she is preparing to buy some home appliances for her new house.

"I will buy an air-conditioner and some other stuff, because I've just finished decorating my new apartment."

In addition, manufacturers have also offered attractive prices at vehicle expos in southern Chinese cities such as Fuzhou and Guangzhou. These too have attracted many interested consumers.
