The music you are listening to is some of the most famous folk music in China. It's expected to be heard around the whole world over the next two months.
After being revised by Tan Dun, it has become the featured music for the Olympic award ceremonies, and will be played hundreds of times during the Games.
Tan included the sound of jade and a set of bells that were 2,400 years old. The combination of jade and bells also resonate(共鸣) with the Olympic medals, which are comprised of jade and medal.
Tan Dun said by using the traditional Chinese instruments, he wants to display harmony and coexistence in Chinese culture.
"Medal award ceremony music has to have this glorious sense. Most importantly, this is in Beijing. I hope the music can tell people around the world that China is home to harmony, so that they can join in this glory, this warmth, and this can only happen in China, not any place else."
Four pieces of music will be played during the whole ceremony. Wang Hesheng composed the marching music, which is to be played when athletes enter the ceremony.
He said marching music is very international, but he added some folk music from west China to it.
"I introduced some Chinese folk music, and properly combined Chinese and western elements, this is my breakthrough. I want to stress, to feel both Chinese and western music at the same time, this is quite rare."
Foreign composers have also been invited to make music for the Beijing Olympic Games.
Swedish musician Robert Wells has cooperated with Tan Dun to produce the music for performances at venues during games time.
He said he was proud of being selected to compose for the Olympics.
"It's very important for me to come from the outside to bring a little western touch of rock beat but not to forget the treasure of Chinese folk music. I think the most important thing, not only to the music, is it's such an important event, music combined with sports and friendship and we are all in China. "
Organizers say musicians and music lovers have shown huge support for the Olympics by offering more than 90 thousand lyrics and four thousand finished products.
Some of them have already been very popular in China.
