Hello, and welcome to this edition of
CRI Roundup . I'm Qizhi in Beijing. The Olympics is definitely the biggest event during the past week. And China is leading in the medal tally during the first week of the Games.
China's Chen Xiexia won the women's 48kg weightlifting title, the first gold medal for the host country at the Beijing Olympic Games.
"I didn't know I got the first gold for China. Someone told me after I finished my match. I was really surprised."
The weightlifting team is one of China's strongest teams. And Chinese men's gymnastics team is another as it claimed the tenth gold medal for China.
After the awarding ceremony, the members of the Chinese team cannot hold their emotions over their success.
Yang Wei, who claimed men's individual all-around crown on Thursday, was a gold medalist in the 2000 Sydney Olympics men's gymnastics team competition.
"This gold medal means another milestone to our team and myself. You know, our men's team has won gold medals for ten times in various world competitions. As a team member, I feel very proud and honored."
During this week, there are also surprises for the Chinese sports fans when enjoying the Olympic games.
In archery, Zhang Juanjuan won a gold in the women's individual final. South Korea had never allowed the women's individual title slip away since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
But this time, 27-year-old Zhang Juanjuan ourperformed her South Korean rivals.
"I was psychologically prepared because I knew I was going to face the three South Korean archers in the afternoon. I made it."
In the swimming pool, China's Liu Zige has smashed the world record in women's 200-meter butterfly, pocketing host China's first swimming gold in the Beijing Olympic Games.
Among Foreign athletes, Michael Phelps, the US swimmer, is definitely the most eye catching. He won gold medals almost every day in the Water Cube, marching for his goal of winning 8 gold medals in this Olympics. This is what he said to CRI after he won the first gold.
"To be honest, I have no idea how I swam so fast. Before the Olympic trials, I had sort of reoccurring dreams of just seeing the time, 3 minutes and 7 seconds. And I was like: why do I keep seeing 3 minutes and 7 seconds? And I told Bob, and he said, 'Well, you probably are dreaming of that being your 300 split for that end.' And I was able to get 3.07 here."
After one third of the games competed in the Beijing Olympic Games, IOC Executive Director of the Olympic Games, Gilbert Felli says the opening ceremony, Olympic village and transportation services have all run smoothly.
He says the athletes are pleased with the situation, both in the Olympic village and competition and training venues.
"As a matter of fact, the IOC President said he took his breakfast at the Olympic Village this morning in a corner so that he wasn't disturbed by too many people. He said that many athletes realized he was there and came to him with thanks, saying they had never seen a condition like this."

Now turning overseas.
The Georgia and South Ossetia situation is getting world attention. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon said Thursday that he was "extremely concerned" about the humanitarian impact of the recent conflict on the civilian population in Georgia.
Reports say more than 100, 000 people were displaced by the recent conflicts in the region.
The United States sent two military planes to Georgia late Wednesday and early Thursday as part of its humanitarian mission.
However Russia questioned cargoes airlifted by the United States to Georgia were really humanitarian aid.
Syria and Lebanon have agreed to establish full diplomatic ties for the first time, in a step toward healing tensions between the two countries that have fuelled Lebanon's turmoil.
The decision to open embassies in one another's capitals came during a landmark visit to Syria by Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman on Wednesday, the first such visit by a Lebanese head of state in more than three years, since Syria pulled out its troops and ended decades of domination of Lebanon.
