A designer of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has assured spectators from all over the world that the ceremony will be full of surprises.

Zhang Jigang is the deputy director for the opening ceremony.

"I think the gala on August the 8th will definitely have many surprises for the spectators though I can't reveal the details right now. So far the major tasks for the ceremony have all been accomplished(多才多艺的); there would be three rehearsals(排练, 排演) to go in the coming less than 10 days."

Anticipation is running high as audiences try to guess what two innovative Chinese choreographers(舞蹈指导), Zhang Jigang and Chen Weijia, have in store for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.

The two creative mavericks(独行其是者,独具眼光的), both considered leading choreographers in China, are working as deputy-directors under film director Zhang Yimou, the general director of the opening ceremony.

International audiences enjoyed a small glimpse of what the 2008 performance might be like during the closing ceremony of the Athens Olympics four years ago.

An eight-minute "preview" show wowed crowds with performances featuring traditional Chinese musical instruments and costumes.

The theme of the 2008 Olympic opening ceremony is a closely guarded secret, but the directors have promised to outdo Athens's performance this summer.
