After studying hard for a semester, students in China look forward to enjoying their summer vacations. But under the pressure of varied exams and their parents, they have to go to  cram schools(补习班) to learn subjects for their next term and prepare for upcoming exams.

The Beijing Youth Daily carried a commentary written by Gao Fusheng, a civil servant in Central China's Hunan Province.

It says summer vacations are a precious time for students to participate in social activities and develop their hobbies. Thus, the author says cram schools should give way to enjoying summer vacations.

In addition, the article notes the Chinese educational department has adopted strict measures to prohibit public schools from operating cram classes.

But privately-organized cram schools have recently come into fashion. Although the tuitions are expensive for most families, parents still enroll their children without a second thought.

Parents believe cram schools can help students progress and get to a famed university.

The author asks parents to show more respect to their children's opinions and give them more freedom.

A recent survey conducted by the China Youth Daily has found that 95% of students would rather not go to cram schools because they are too stressed to study during summer vacation.
