High-school graduates in quake regions will take postponed national college entrance examinations later this week.

Students are busy with last-minute cramming to ensure access to undergraduate studies at a university.

Yang Yang, dean of Pingwu High School in southwest China's Sichuan Province, said their students, like many others in the quake region, were relocated after the earthquake with the help of the entire society.

"We are trying to help the students restore their confidence, to give them some psychological assistance. The teacher's job at this stage is to answer questions raised by students."

Yang noted that they've also changed the daily schedule for the students to make sure they can get enough rest before the big exam.

Students say after more than one month's grace period, they're almost ready for the exam.

"At the beginning, we are worried about our family members and friends. We could not concentrate. Gradually, with the help of our teachers, we got down to preparing for the exams."

The Ministry of Education has allowed a total of 120,000 students in the quake-affected areas in Sichuan and its neighboring Gansu Province to take a postponed college entrance exam. Performing well on this exam will allow students to earn acceptances into good universities.

The ministry also ordered local governments to ensure the students' safety.
