Hello, and welcome to this edition of CRI Roundup. I'm Zheng Chenguang in Beijing.
Let's take a look at some of the major events that have happened in China and around the world during the past week.

The G8 member countries and other major economies including China, India and Australia have pledged to cooperate to battle climate change.

In a statement, leaders of the world's major economies, both developed and developing, have committed to combat climate change  in accordance with (一致) common but differentiated responsibilities.

US President George W Bush hailed the G-8 summit's move, saying progress has been made.

"The G8 expressed our desire to have a significant reduction in greenhouse gases by 2050. We made clear and the other nations agree that they must also participate in an ambitious goal with interim(短期内的) goals and interim plans to enable the world to successfully address climate change."

Also attending the summit, Chinese President Hu Jintao raised a four-point proposal on boosting world economy and called for more efforts to realize the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals at the outreach session of G8 summit.

Chinese vice president Xi Jinping reiterated on the central government's confidence in Hong Kong people's wisdom and ability to govern and build the city.

Xi Jinping made the remark on Monday at a welcoming banquet hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

"Today's Hong Kong enjoys stable social order, a growing economy and improved livelihood. The circumstances are encouraging and inspiring. Practices proved and will prove the correctness and vitality of the 'one country, two systems' policy. Hong Kong compatriots are fully capable of governing and building Hong Kong."

The vice president also revealed that the Ministry of Commerce and the SAR government will sign an agreement to facilitate entry of Hong Kong service providers to the Chinese mainland.

Xi Jinping was in Hong Kong for three-day inspection(调查) tour.

Negotiators of the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue have met in Beijing for a fresh round of discussions after a nine-month stalemate.

The fresh round of six-party talks is set to focus on steps and measures to realize the second phase of the action plan in a comprehensive and balanced way.

The talks, involving China, the United States, North Korea, South Korea, Russia and Japan, are scheduled to run till Saturday.

The largest ever Main Press Center and International Broadcast Center for the Beijing Olympic Games opened on Tuesday.

During the Games, the two buildings will be the second home for some 20,000 journalists accredited by the International Olympic Committee.

Hein Verbruggen, the IOC member in charge of overseeing preparation for the 2008 Olympics, highlights the significance of the two facilities.

"Because it is from here that the story of Beijing 2008 will be told. Stories of about sporting spectacles, victories and defeats, stories also of friendship forged between athletes from different nations, stories of how China and its people get to be better known and understood."

Meanwhile, the Olympic torch was relayed in north China's Inner Mogolia Autonomous Region and neighbouring Heilongjiang Province this week.

Capital city Harbin is the first stop of torch in Heilongjiang province. The next stop for the torch is the city of Daqing.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has warned Iran that his country will not hesitate to resort to military action in the wake of Tehran's missile tests.

Barak, also chairman of the Labor Party, issued the strongly-worded warning in an address at the party's Tel Aviv headquarters.

"Israel is the strongest country in the region and has proved in the past that it does not hesitate to act when its vital security interests are at stake. Nevertheless we are not released from the responsibility of taking decisions and we are not working in an empty field."

The defense chief said the focus now is sanctions and diplomatic action and Israel should act cautiously.

Israel has also put its latest spy plane on display.

Iran has successfully test-fired both medium- and long-range missiles this week, in what many analysts described as a move to trigger grave concerns over stability in the region.
