a) Be full of beans
【意思】
1.Lively, energetic and enthusiastic, in highspirits 精力旺盛，情绪高涨
【例句】I've never metanyone so full of beans before breakfast.
The children were full of beans today, looking forward to their fieldtrip.
He is still fullof beans at 95.
2.(=full of prunes) Acting foolish, talking nonsense; erroneous; misinformed 弄错的，容易受骗的
【例句】One cup of coffeewon't hurt you--you're full of prunes.
Youare full of prunes; that man's not 120 years old.
【语源】该词条来源于喂马用的豆子。Be full of beans最初形容的是马被喂饱后有精力的样子。第二条意思暂时没有合理解释。
b) Spill the beans
【意思】to disclose a secret, either accidentallyor imprudently, thereby ruining a surprise or plan: 泄露秘密；透露消息；承认某事；破坏一个惊喜
【语源】该短语起源与20世纪20年代的美国。具体的来历不明确，但似乎是由其他的idioms合成的。动词spill的意思是’to divulge facts’(泄露事实)。另有一个俗语‘to know beans’是’to bewell-informed’的意思。因此’to spill the beans’就成了’to disclose confidential information’的意思。
