A total of 35 Chinese companies are on this year's Fortune 500 list, the best-ever showing by Chinese companies in the ranking.

A report in the Beijing Times says with the increasing international market shares, Chinese companies have played a more important role on a global basis. Being ranked in the Fortune 500 list is also a signal for their good trend of development.

The paper quotes a banking expert as saying more than half of Chinese companies on the list are state-owned. They mainly include those in sectors like energy, financial and telecommunications.

Meanwhile, construction enterprises have been more competitive in the world, which is reflected in their higher ranking compared to before.

However, some companies said they don't care much about rankings on the list. They believe profitability is the core competence, which could make them more competitive in the global market.
