Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Jianchao's Remarks on the US Government's Decision to Sell Weapons to Taiwan
10月3日，美国政府不顾中方一再严正交涉，通知国会决定向台湾出售“爱国者-3”反导系统、“E-2T”预警机升级系统、“阿帕奇”直升机等武器装 备，总价值达64.63亿美元。中国政府和人民坚决反对和谴责美方这一严重损害中国利益和中美关系的行径。外交部副部长何亚非已奉命召见美国驻华使馆临时代办，向美方提出强烈抗议。
On October 3rd, in disregard of China's repeated solemn representations, the U.S. Government informed the Congress of its decision to sell US$6.463 billion weapons to Taiwan, including Patriot III anti-missile system, E-2T airborne early warning aircraft upgrade system, and Apache helicopters. The Chinese Government and people firmly oppose and condemn the US move, which will severely undermine China's interest and Sino-US relations. Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei has been ordered to summon the Charge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in China to raise strong protest to the US side.
中方坚决反对美国向台湾出售武器，这一立场从来是明确和坚定不移的。美方同意售台上述先进武器，严重违反中美三个联合公报特别是“八·一七”公报原则，粗暴干涉中国内政，危害中国国家安全，给两岸关系和平发展制造干扰和障碍，理所当然激起中国政府和人民的强烈愤慨。
China resolutely opposes the US arms sales to Taiwan. This position has always been clear and consistent. The US decision to sell the above-mentioned advanced arms to Taiwan is a serious violation of the principles set in the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, August 17 Communiqué in particular, and gross interference in China's internal affairs, which will undermine China's national security, and create disturbance and obstacles to the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations. The Chinese Government and people will definitely respond with strong indignation.
我们正告美方，世界上只有一个中国，台湾是中国的一部分。任何人也不能动摇中国政府和人民维护国家主权和领土完整，反对外来干涉的坚定意志。任何人也阻挡不了两岸推进交流合作，开创两岸关系和平发展新局面的历史潮流。
It is our solemn statement to the US side that there is but one China in the world with Taiwan part of it. Nobody could bend the strong will of the Chinese Government and people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity against external interference. Nobody could block the historic endeavor of both sides across the Strait to promote cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation and open up new prospects of peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
我们再次敦促美方认清售台武器的严重危害性，切实履行坚持一个中国政策、遵守中美三个联合公报、反对 “台独”的承诺，立即采取措施纠正错误，撤销有关对台军售计划，停止美台军事联系，停止干扰两岸关系和平发展，以免给中美关系和台海和平稳定造成进一步损害。中方保留作出进一步反应的权利。
We once again urge the US side to recognize the severity of its arms sales to Taiwan, earnestly honor its commitment to abiding by the one-China policy and the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, and to opposing "Taiwan independence". The US should take immediate measures to correct its mistakes, cancel relevant plans to sell weapons to Taiwan, put an end to its military links with Taiwan, and stop disturbing the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, so as to prevent further damage to the Sino-US relations as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China reserves the right to make further reactions.
