“范跑跑”尚未谢幕,“杨不管”又已登场。安徽省长丰县双墩镇两名中学生在上课时打架,导致其中一人死亡,正在授课的杨姓教师并未制止,而是继续上课直至下课。杨老师被网友戏称为“杨不管”,甚至认为他比四川大地震时不顾学生自行逃命的都江堰市老师范美忠“范跑跑” 更恶劣。

A court in East China's Anhui Province has held a middle school teacher responsible for a fight that resulted a death in his class.

Yang Jinggui was required to pay 100,000 Yuan, or nearly 14,500 US dollars, in compensation(赔偿)to the victim's family because he did nothing to stop the students when the fight took place at class.

After the incident was reported, the teacher was nicknamed "the indifferent Yang" by netizens.

The Beijing based Workers' Daily carried a commentary, saying that such indifference could hardly make the public respect teachers.

The teacher reportedly said to the students when they were fighting that "You can fight on the playground after class if you have enough energy."

What's more, he didn't take the injured student to the hospital in time but continued with his class.

The article severely criticized the teacher's behavior and expressed worries that the teacher's attitude and behavior would affect his students who might become as indifferent in the future.

But an article on Zhejiang-online stated a different opinion.

It said that current laws and regulations entitle much obligation and responsibility to teachers, but too few rights.

The article noted the reality has gradually changed so that students and parents dare to insult or harass teachers but teachers dare not to punish the students, who no longer respect school rules and disciplines.

Another violent incident took place half a year ago in the same school where Yang Jinggui works. A student stabbed his teacher after he had been criticized.

The article therefore raised the question of who should protect the safety and respect for teachers.
