The man packed to serve as the top US commander in the Middle East faced an equally tough challenge today in Washington. Navy Admiral William Fallon appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee and spoke bluntly about the challenges plaguing the region particularly the war in Iraq. Fallon told committee members that the US miscalculated the war and that time is running out.
A federal court in Atlanta has reinstated murder conspiracy charges against terror suspect Jose Padilla. The charge of conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim people overseas is the most serious one (accused) against the accused al-Qaeda operative. It carries a potential life sentence. A judge threw out the charge last year saying it duplicated other counts. It was reinstated following an appeal by federal prosecutors.
The FAA would like to increase the mandatory retirement age for pilots. Now the retirement age for commercial pilots in the US is 60. To match international standards, the proposed change would hike that to 65. Sixty-five is the international age limit for commercial pilots.
You can now buy Microsoft's new operating system Vista. The Windows software went on sale in 70 countries today. Microsoft says Vista is such a huge improvement that users will inevitably say “wow” when they see it. But they admit most people will only switch to Vista when they buy new computers.
“Every Breath You Take”, wow, that is a classic, probably you remember it well. One of the biggest selling bands of the 70s and 80s (is) reuniting to perform at the Grammy Awards. The Police would open the February 11th program and the scheduled performance is fueling rumors of a reunion tour. The group disbanded following that completion of its 1983 “Synchronicity” tour. But the members rejoined for a one-time performance in 2003 to mark their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
