Overseas Chinese in Germany, Canada and the United Arab Emirates(n.阿拉伯联合酋长国) have launched several donation drives for the tens of thousands of victims affected by last week's earthquake.

In major cities in Germany, overseas Chinese students held charity sales and conducted street donation drives.

Fu Chunping is the president of a Chinese school in Berlin, who organized a fundraising event at his school.

"When someone is in trouble, people from all over will come to help. This is a tradition of Chinese people. Now, it is our duty to help them in the quake-hit regions, and we will not stop at anything to show our full support."

Meanwhile, a parent at the school said she was deeply moved by the kids' generosity.

"Blood is thicker than water. Chinese traditions have been well preserved among overseas Chinese. Children here are not just taught to do so. They genuinely feel they should do something to help their brothers and sisters in their home country far away."

In Toronto, Chinese citizens from Sichuan have formed an earthquake relief commission to call for help. And in Dubai, diplomats held charity performances to raise funds for quake victims.
