风水:到底是科学还是迷信?

Wuhan University of Science and Technology recently offered an elective course called "Architecture and Feng Shui."

Feng Shui, translated as "wind and water" in English, is an ancient Chinese aesthetic system used to promote health, happiness and prosperity. In traditional Chinese culture, Feng Shui was important in choosing a place to live, arranging furniture, and finding a burial site.

The Feng Shui course offered in the college has aroused a hot debate on whether or not it is superstitious. Some experts say since Feng Shui is not considered scientific in the Chinese mainstream, colleges should be cautious about offering this course. Others argue that the Feng Shui course is an integrated course composed of geophysics and landscape architecture.

An article in the Beijing Youth Daily says college shouldn't use "Feng Shui," a controversial tag for a common course, to attract students.

The article points out that the course mainly focuses on how to create a more harmonious relationship between buildings and nature. If it were called "Living Environment and Architectural Design," no one would have commented at all.
