China is rapidly developing railway links to boost domestic demand.

On Sunday, the construction started on the nearly 600 kilometers high-speed rail link between Nanning and Guangzhou which will cut travel time between the country's two southern cities from some thirteen hours to two and a half hours.

Lu Chunfang, vice Minister of Railway said that in October alone, eleven new railways are under construction and the scale of the building is unprecedented.

"In the fourth quarter of this year, we will have invested more than 150 billion yuan, or more than 20 billion US dollars, in railway construction. It's equivalent to the total amount of last three quarters."

Till now, more than 150 rail links are under construction in China, with the total investment reaching 1200 billion yuan, or some 176 billion U.S. dollars.
