With whopping(巨大的, 庞大的) destructive powers, typhoon Fengshen in Southeast Asia has created massive losses for the countries in the region.

As it is expected to roar over costal provinces along the southeastern border of China, authorities are warning the public to take preventative measures for potential floods.

CRI Reporter Chen Xi has the story.

East China is bracing for the arrival of the severe tropical storm Fengshen, which is forecast to make a possible visit in the coastal provinces of Fujian and Guangdong on Wednesday.

The Fujian provincial meteorological(气象的, 气象学的) observatory issued a warning on Tuesday of strong winds that might hit the southern coastal area and the Taiwan Straits in the next 24 hours.

Vessels have also been alerted to return to harbor.

Guangdong's flood control headquarters has implemented its typhoon emergency response plan, ordering ships to return to harbor and the evacuation of fish farmers living in low-lying coastal areas.

According to China Central Meteorological Station, Fengshen have been downgraded from a typhoon and was likely to land between Shanwei in Guangdong and Zhangpu in Fujian during the day on Wednesday, bringing torrential rains.

The station said the storm has a maximum gust of more than 100 km per hour.

Earlier, the Philippines Red Cross and disaster relief authorities announced that nearly 230 people had been killed and 700 are missing after Typhoon Fengshen tore through the archipelago(群岛, 多岛海).
