This year's college freshmen attracted wide attention as the first group of university students who were born in the 1990s. Most of them are the only children in their families. The public often considers them self-centered, spoiled and arrogant.

News about "Post-90s" generation can be easily found in Chinese media. Recently, 38 students quit their military training in a college in Guangdong Province, claiming sickness, leading some people to criticize them for being coddled(娇生惯养的).

A commentary in the Beijing Evening News argues that caring about the next generation is reasonable, but there is no need to make fuss(大惊小怪) about their lifestyles and customs. It's unfair to attach a label to the entire generation, which would have no positive effect on the young people and might even lead to aggressive behavior toward society.

The article stresses the importance of mutual respect between the youth and their elders. It says that each generation has distinctive(有特色的) characteristics and that outstanding people come from every generation. The paper concludes by saying that the older generation needs to provide a healthy, comfortable environment for the younger generation.
