Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has urged politicians and experts to come together to map out a practical solution to curb global warming.

Tony Blair said he gave Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, host of the G-8 meeting (八国峰会) next month, a report on how to forge an international deal on fighting global warming.

Tony Blair also warned of a "yawning chasm" between what the scientists say needs to be done and what the politicians say they are prepared to do.

"Long term, everyone accepts that the needs of the economy and the needs of the environment operating in partnership. Short term there is a clear tension and we live in a short-term. The report, therefore, tries to design a way to bridge that chasm".

The report was produced by the Climate Group, a non-profit organization Blair is part of.

The report, released on Friday and titled "Breaking the Climate Deadlock," said gas emissions that cause global warming are up not only in developing nations but also in the US and Japan.

The Climate Group, which brings together people in politics and business, hopes to get global support for a deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2050.
