A Serbian official has said that Radovan Karadzic would be handed over to the UN war crimes tribunal this weekend or early next week.
Bruno Vekaric is the spokesman for Serbia's war crimes prosecutor.
"The legal deadline for the appeal is three days. I am assuming the appeal will be launched on Friday, after that judges will decide when they make their decision. We are expecting the Court of appeal will not wait all three days they have to answer to the appeal, but we are talking about a weekend so all is possible."
The incident came after Serbia moved closer to overcoming its biggest obstacle to EU integration, when its security forces arrested Karadzic, one of three remaining war crimes suspects.

Karadzic is currently in Belgrade awaiting extradition following his capture on Monday.
But afficials at the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, said later that they do not know when Karadzic will be transferred.
Karadzic cannot be flown to the Hague until a Belgrade court has considered the appeal that he will lodge against the extradition.
The Serbian government has declined to comment on the arrest of Karadzic. It insisted it was up to the police and the judiciary system in the country.
