With the Beijing Olympic torch being carried across different areas of China, many torchbearers have adopted unique and diversified approaches.

For instance, when the torch passed through central China's Henan Province, monks from the Shaolin Temple performed kung-fu horse stances（马步） to display local culture.

The Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post cites some people criticizing that the various torch relay styles have violated the divinity of the rituals, as they believe that the Olympic torch relay should follow its traditional manner.

However, the Beijing News carries a commentary arguing that the innovative forms reflect an improved public understanding of the Olympic Games. The paper says that the grand sports events are not only for athletic competition, but also for entertainment. While the Games grant the athletes an opportunity for competition, they also provide the spectators with spiritual enjoyment.

Since the Games are to a large extent a form of entertainment, the paper says that the public should not  get too fussy about （太介意）the innovative forms. In a time of cultural diversification, people should be able to enjoy the freedom of understanding and expression brought with the modern Olympic Games.
