The Bush's administration's plan for using 700 billion dollars to bailout private firms settled with Bagdad get a skeptical reception on capital hill today, though democrats and republicans pan the idea. More from NPR's David Welna.

Senator majority leader Harry Reid voiced concerns shared by many democrats. Reid faulted the bailout plan for giving virtually unfettered authority to Treasure Secretary Henry Paulson." Democrats in Congress fully understand the society of the situation and need to past legislation, but we are not willing to give President Bush a blank check." In the House, Florida republican Cliff Sterns echoed Reid's concerns. "As a elected official, I'm worried about this weekends comprehensive bailout plan that gives Secretary of Treasury unprecedented authority and virtually no oversight, aside from having to submit a semi-annual report to congress." Congression leaders are insisting on adding a strong oversight (失败,疏忽)board to the bailout plan, a move that White House has already accepted. David Welna NPR news, the capital.

There are reports key democrats and Bush Administration officials trying to come up with terms of the bailout that have been in meeting in Washington this evening, House speaker Nancy Pelosi saying a measure will pass soon.

The heads of the group of seven industrialized nations are welcoming the proposed 700 billion dollar US market bailout plan saying they are prepared to step up international cooperation to help protect the global financial and banking system. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson over the weekend said he was "aggressively encouraging other countries to put in place bailout packages of their own." Though so far, there is little sign that other G7 governments are following

Washington's lead.

Jury selection has began on the trial of Republican Senator Tent Steven of Alaska, potential juries received a 21 paged questionnaire(问卷,调查表) asking about their political activities that have connections to Alaska, and their experience was home innovations. NPR's Ari Shapiro has more.

Prosecutors accused senator Stevens' failing to report gift that he received from a oil company. Those gifts totaled more than 250,000 dollars and included an addition to his house. So question No.21 for potential juror is "if you have ever renovated your home was it a positive experience, a negative experience or a neutral experience." Then there is question 54 "what comes to mind when you think out Alaska". This is the first time in almost 30 years that a sitting senator has trialed by federal jury. Stevens insisted he is innocent. He's running in reelection in Alaska while his trial takes place in Washington. The court expects his trial to last about 4 weeks. Opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday. Ari Shapiro NPR news Washington.

Oil prices today took their biggest one day spike ever in response to worries about whether congress will be able to get a financial rescue plan in place. Price's up one point sort of above 25 cents a barrel, for selling up 16 dollars a barrel.

On Wall Street, the Dow fell 372 points today. This is NPR.

It now appears that only a changing plan may have saved Pakistan's top leaders from being among the victims of this past weekend's Marriott hotel bombing in Islamabad. Massive track bomb blast killed at least 53 people including the *** ambassador and two US Defense Department employees and wounded hundreds of others. A senior official said the country's top leaders were planning to dine in there, but changed the venue at the last minute. There have been some claims of responsibility for the bombing, calling for an end US-Pakistan cooperation against Islamic militants. Meanwhile there were reports that Pakistani troops and tribes have opened fire on two helicopters late yesterday as they crossed from Afghanistan.

American Airline's plane blew a tire, ran out of the runway which cargo are here at international airport today, no injuries were reported however. NPR's David Schaper has more.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, an American Airline's flight 2-68 was on its way to New York's JFK airport from Seattle to Coma in Washington State, when a cockpit indicator lighter alerted the pilots to an electrical problem in the aircraft. The pilots requested an emergency landing, and the FAA diverted the American flight to O'Hair. As the Boeing 757 made the emergency landing, the airplane apparently blew a tire, and then overshoved the runway coming to a rest in a grassy area just off the end of the runway. No one was hurt, and a bus transported the passengers to O'Hair terminal, so they can continue on their travels. David Schaper NPR news Chicago.
