Julia Roberts is honored with the American Cinematheque Award

Julia Roberts received the American Cinematheque award last night during a benefit dinner in Beverly Hills. “I really am just a girl from a little town in Georgia, who had this giant, absurd dream,” said the actress, as she accepted the award. (More pictures of her are below.) Other notables who have received the honor in the past include Stephen Spielberg, Nicole Kidman, Sean Connery, and George Clooney (whom Roberts presented the award to last year).
Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars came out to pay tribute to Julia - Denzel Washington (who presented the award to her last night), Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Bruce Willis, and Natalie Portman, just to name a few.
She said that she came along at the right time to become an A-list actress..
“I think I came along at a kinder time in the business,” Roberts said. “It wasn’t about fashion, and there weren’t so many media outlets, it was just kind of different. You could really cultivate your work a little more gently.”
Roberts won an Academy Award for her role in the 2000 movie Erin Brockovich. She has been in scores of films, including Steel Magnolias, Ocean’s Eleven, and Mystic Pizza (one of my favorites).
So even though she can command over $20 million dollars per film, she is most proud of her role as a mother and wife. During Roberts’ speech, she thanked her husband of five years, Danny Moder, for “widening her life — and her hips”. She and Moder and have three children, Phinnaeus, Hazel, and Henry.
The show was taped and will air on December 5.
