玛丽 • 罗伯茨 • 莱因哈特（Mary Roberts Rinehart，1876-1958），是一位多产的悬疑/侦探女作家，1908至1959的52年中出了60多部悬疑作品，有“美国的阿加莎·克里斯蒂”之称。《旋转楼梯/The Circular Staircase 》(1908) 是莱因哈特最著名的作品，在“美国推理作家协会”投票选出的一百部最佳推理小说中排名40。 作者以此书为代表的一系列悬疑小说开创了“早知如此”（"Had-I-But-Known" ）流派，亦即后来的“女性悬念小说”。

【故事简介】A Gothic mystery unfolds when aspinster arrives at the mansion she'srented for the summer. Plans for a restful vacation are sooninterrupted by niece and nephew, ghosts and spirits, murder and mayhem.The summer occupants of "Sunnyside" find the dead body of ArnoldArmstrong, the son of the owner, on the circular staircase. Followingthe murder a bank failure is announced. Around these two events iswoven a plot of absorbing interest.The mystery is enjoyablefor its historical setting, and it doesn't come across as dated.
