Sunday is the last day of China's weeklong National Day holiday. Statistics from tourism authorities show the number of tourists in China rose by 30% compared with the some period last year.
In such attractions as the National Stadium and newly renovated Qianmen Street, one of Beijing's oldest commercial areas, the number of tourists had once hit 300 thousand a day during the holiday.
In some hot spots like Lijiang, an ancient town in South China's Yunnan Province, there was even a shortage of accommodation.
An article carried by the Beijing Youth Daily provides a solution to deal with the pressure on the tourism sector during the period.
It refers to China's Annual Paid Leave policy, which provides regular, full-time employees with an entitlement of days away from work with pay.
The paper says this policy can provide people with a more flexible timetable for travel, and will ease the tension of the weeklong national holiday. It can also promote the healthy development of national tourism.
Moreover, it says employers that cannot arrange for annual leave should pay daily remunerations at the rate of 300%.
To conclude, the paper urges authorities to work out related measures to ensure a smooth implementation of this policy.
