A weakening hurricane Matthew struck Georgia and South Carolina on Saturday in what appeared to be the last leg of its march up the East Coast. The hurricane was blamed for at least ten deaths in the U.S., and hundreds were left dead in Matthew’s wake in Haiti.
German authorities on Saturday said a successful controlled detonation was carried out after investigators found several hundred grams of highly volatile explosives in an apartment. Officials say a Syrian man was being sought in connection with planning a bombing attack.
A husband and wife from Maine are this year’s winners of the North American Wife Carrying Championship. They will compete in the world championship in Finland next year. Elliot and Giana Storey bested 43 other couples to win the 17th annual competition.
