In a show of confidence, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti took a subway to work from the Universal City Rail Station Tuesday, which was threatened with attack. Heavily armed sheriff's deputies guarded that station and other parts of the transit system following the threat, which was reported to an overseas anonymous tip line.
President-elect Donald Trump surprised the media waiting in the lobby of Trump Tower when he emerged from an elevator accompanied by members of his Secret Service detail. Trump spoke briefly about the meetings he had for the day and commented on a Tweet about canceling the contract for the Boeing to build the new Air Force One.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden kept reporters guessing about his potential plans to seek a White House bid in four years after saying Monday night that he'd run. On his way to a meeting Tuesday morning, Biden joked that he was "going to announce right now".
And a suburban Chicago home famous for its annual Christmas light display is draped this year in 10,000 purple lights and symbols in a tribute to the late pop star Prince.
